A few days before the official day for condemnation of violence against women (25 November), UmAy organized a reading event in a homey cafe in Istanbul. Five women from different backgrounds read the final section of Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes ahead of time and shared impressions. Striking details on healing effects of telling stories were discussed. We kept a critical eye on the culture-specific issues about when, with whom, and to what extent the trauma stories should be handled, particularly in regard to the sensitive and significant relationship between colonialism and therapy(-ies) practices and trainings imported from the West.
